Jenna Brandt and Free Books!

A Texas Deputy Sheriff and a small town girl fall in love in the Old West.

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the signed copy of Things I Never Told You, by Beth Vogt, is:

marypopmom@...

Congratulations! I'll email you for your snail mail address, and we'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.

And now let's visit with novelist Jenna Brandt, author of the Inspirational historical western romance, Lawfully Loved (independently published, February 2018).

Jenna Brandt is a Christian historical romance author and she is branching into contemporary romance in 2018. Her books span from Victorian to Western to WWI eras with elements of romance, suspense, and faith.

Her debut series, the Window to the Heart Saga, has become a bestseller and her newest venture is the multi-author series, The Lawkeepers.

She is also an author in the First Street Church kindle world.

Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Lawfully Loved.

Jake “Bullseye” Bolton is trying to hide from a broken past through his work while Rebecca Caldwell is trying to take care of her family while they deal with an ongoing problem with their family. Both don’t think they can make room for love, but when instant attraction forms between them, they both rethink their decision.

The novel has a bit of humor with lots of action and romance.

What is it about your lead characters that will make your readers care about them?

Jake is honorable and loyal. He cares about the people he is protecting. Rebecca loves her family and does everything she can to take care of them.

Share with us one hard, cold fact about writing and one warm, fuzzy one.

Finding time to write is probably one of the largest obstacles most writers face. When someone tells me they loved my book and made them happy, it’s the best feeling in the world.

What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?

I really enjoyed Evangeline Kelly’s Lawfully Protected. It’s in the same series. I was surprised to like it since I don’t like first person perspective, but Evangeline does a terrific job. The characters are well developed; the story is great and you can tell she researched her book’s content.

What are you working on now?

I’m currently working on a spin-off series from my first contemporary romance book, Lawfully Adored which came out in April. It takes places in a small town, Clear Mountain, Colorado, which I created for the book. I decided to turn it into a series called Clear Mountain Romances and I’m working on the first book, tentatively called Clearly Wedded detailing the lives of the couple from Lawfully Adored and setting up future books in the series.

Beth Vogt and Free Books!

Things I Never Told You asks the question: Is family always worth fighting for?

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winners of the e-copies of my new novella, Together by Design, are:

cheetahthecat1986@...

and

tumcsec@...(dot)com

Congratulations! I'll get your e-books right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.

And now let's visit with novelist Beth Vogt, author of the women's fiction release, Things I Never Told You (Tyndale House Publisher, May 2018).

Beth K. Vogt is a non-fiction author and editor who said she’d never write fiction. She’s the wife of an Air Force family physician (now in solo practice) who said she’d never marry a doctor—or anyone in the military. She’s a mom of four who said she’d never have kids.

Now Beth believes God’s best often waits behind the doors marked “Never.”

Beth is a 2016 Christy Award winner, a 2016 ACFW Carol Award winner, and a 2015 RITA finalist. Her 2014 novel, Somebody Like You, was one of Publisher's Weekly's Best Books of 2014.

An established magazine writer and former editor of the leadership magazine for MOPS International, Beth blogs for Novel Rocket and The Write Conversation and also enjoys speaking to writers' groups and mentoring other writers.

Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.

When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me on the sidelines of my daughter’s volleyball games holding a camera and taking thousands and thousands of photos. I’ve become the (un)official photographer of both her high school and club teams. I love viewing the game through the perspective of a camera lens.

Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Things I Never Told You.

It’s been ten years since Payton Thatcher’s twin sister died in an accident, leaving the entire family to cope in whatever way they could. No longer half of a pair, Payton reinvents herself as a partner in a successful party-planning business and is doing just fine — as long as she manages to hold her memories and her family at arm’s length.

But as old wounds reopen and the family faces yet another tragedy, the Thatchers must decide if they will pull together or be driven apart for good.

What is it about Payton that will make your readers care about her?

Payton is anything but perfect …and this speaks to the anything-but-perfect part in all of us. Sometimes we try to hide that part of ourselves. Sometimes we try to pretty it up … but then circumstances overwhelm us, and we can’t help but be real … gut-level honest with ourselves, with others, and with God.

I recently moved to California from the East Coast, and I know I’ll end up setting some future stories here now. What life event would you say has impacted what you write?

For Things I Never Told You, which is about the complicated relationships between sisters, I drew upon my own complicated relationship with my two sisters. I believe all relationships have their difficult, challenging moments, and I like to delve into that when I’m writing — even when I was writing contemporary romance.

What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?

Cathy West is a good friend and a talented writer. I’ve told her that if we weren’t good friends I just might seriously envy her writing ability instead of celebrating it. Her latest release, Where Hope Begins, is rich with emotion and she tackles serious topics like grief and infidelity with insight and sensitivity.

Cathy is a terrific person. I'm not at all surprised that her books are insightful.

What are you working on now?

I’m writing book 2 of the Thatcher Sister Series — more complications … more character growth.

Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?

If you have sisters, what kind of relationship do you have with them? Or if you have daughters, what are you doing to encourage a good relationship between them? Any twins out there? (I’m a twin — I have a fraternal twin sister.)

Together by Design! In Love and War! Free Books!

When life and love thwart Elena's well-designed plans, she discovers the riches available to those willing to bend, take risks, and surrender just a little control.

To celebrate the release of my latest contemporary romance, Together by Design (Winged Publications, May 2018), I'm going to give away two e-copies next week.

Here's a brief summary of the story.

Elena Tafani is in control of almost every aspect of her life. But getting arrested is only the first in a number of experiences that throw her summer completely off kilter.

She may know how to stage a home to show it at its best, but her life isn’t showing quite as well. There’s her runaway niece, her hard-bitten sister, her over-indulgent parents, and her judgmental clients. Then there’s Chaz, the best friend for whom she’s developing very confusing feelings.

What’s a good rule follower supposed to do?

The novella can be purchased online via the following button:

This is also a good time to mention that the entertaining four-novella contemporary romance collection, In Love and War, featuring stories by Miralee Ferrell, Kimberly Rose Johnson, Debby Mayne, and myself, has been priced down to only 99 cents for the entire e-collection for a limited time. All four stories concern couples who are initially adversarial before love works its way into their hearts. Click the following button to take advantage of the 99 cent pricing!

To enter the drawing for the two e-copies of Together by Design, leave a comment and your email in answer to my question below. "Please enter me" won't get you entered. Remember that subscribers are entered an additional time in each drawing. The drawing is done by email, so leave your email address, like so: trish[at]trishperry[dot]com.

Many commenters are left out of the drawing because they forget to include a way for me to notify them of their win (their email).

My question? What is something that came along in your life to disrupt the plans you thought you were going to follow? How did that work out?

I hope you'll also enjoy the interview below with Sherri Wilson Johnson!

Sherri Wilson Johnson and Free Books!

Disappearing business funds and a missing dead body have Marina Acres doubting everyone — including the detective who can't solve his case without her help.

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the e-copy of The Fifteenth Article, by Linda Rondeau, is:

cjansma@...

Congratulations! We'll get your e-book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to participate in future book give-aways! Subscribers are entered a second time when they comment.

And now let's visit with novelist Sherri Wilson Johnson, author of the romantic suspense novel, Grafted into Deceit (Indie published, October 2017).

Sherri Wilson Johnson is a multi-published Inspirational Romance novelist, speaker, virtual assistant, and self-publishing coach. She is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) and is passionate about writing, publishing, and marketing.

She lives in Georgia with her husband Dan and her Chihuahua. She loves spending time with her adult children and friends or curling up with a good book or her current work-in-progress. Sherri enjoys doing jigsaw puzzles in the winter and counts the days every year until she can take another trip to the beach.

She is the author of To Dance Once More, To Laugh Once More, and When Love Must Wait from her Hope of the South series, and Song of the Meadowlark, Secrets Among the Cedars and Grafted into Deceit from her Contemporary Suspense series, Intertwined.

Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.

I’ve watched all 33 seasons of the Bob Ross painting videos (although I can’t paint) and am convinced I can paint one of his scenes once I finish collecting all my painting supplies.

Don't you just love buying supplies? I think I enjoy that as much as the arts/crafts themselves.

Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Grafted into Deceit.

When Marina Acres launches an investigation to find her company's missing money, she becomes a killer's target and uncovers a tangled vine of deception in the process.

Detective Steven Pennington, who suspects drugs are at the root of the problem, must keep Marina safe from the killer while keeping himself from falling for yet another victim.

Marina refuses to believe that her business partner could be part of a drug trafficking ring, but when evidence points its finger at her, she must join the fight with Steven to weed out the killer.

What is it about your lead character that will make your readers care about her?

She’s been taken advantage of financially but refuses to let it stop her. She’s strong and determined to win.

Share with us one hard, cold fact about writing and one warm, fuzzy one.

Writing is hard to do when you work full time and when you don’t know if you’ll ever see the story in print.

Writing fills my bucket and makes me feel connected to God and my purpose more.

Oh, I'm completely in agreement with you on the full-time work. I really had to scale back on my writing once I went back to my day job. I long for the full-time writing days again!

What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?

The Priority Unit by Susan Page Davis. It’s the first book in a seven book series that’s full of suspense sprinkled with a good romance.

Susan is awesome and is a frequent guest on this site.

What are you working on now?

I am now working on a story set on the Erie Canal called The Bridge Between Us for Barbour Publishing. I don’t have a release date yet, but I’m estimating it will be 2019.
